When did that start happening? Edge doesn't do that. Pretty safe to say, that won't happen now. If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration.
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu: Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled. If you don't have Tile Tabs but you have other extensions or themes, one of them might be the cause. Type about:config in the address bar and press enter Click the 'I promise to be careful' button In the Search Bar, type gfx.xrender.enabled Double-click that preference to set it to false. Nor can I find the idea of short vs full URLs or any lack of ability to change, add, delete, modify single characters w/in said URLs; and w/out double clicking.

The Edge Address bar is short. All these answers are useless. but.... ... it's so unpredictable...
Not sure what you mean. Ubuntu? What have you tried? Please, point out what I must be missing in regard to your issue since, maybe, I'm not, currently, grasping what it is.
