Even a modern Celeron would be a vast improvement, though I'd recommend a Core i3 or i5. A Q6600 is a very slight upgrade, but an E8*00 or Q9*50 chip will have a lot more cache on the CPU, which will definitely help with better peformance. Just look up videos on how to put together a computer. Note: Those chips are 95w, will my MB support? Thanks for the feedback. For Win 10, it doesn't really matter.
I don't want to go to Vista just yet 'cos I'm happy with XP. That will make a big difference in performance, and if you're already looking to buy used or refurbished, the cost will be close to the same. The power consumption levels are also WAY lower.That is because the i3 has speed. However I have found the results to be pretty disappointing so far. Would just like to be able to run triples with 4xMSAA and steady 60FPS. If the prices of those are a bit higher than what you're interested in, then I'd really start thinking about upgrading to a new chipset, CPU, and memory, rather than sinking
AVSIM is staffed completely by volunteers and all funds donated to AVSIM go directly back to supporting the community. But seriously, try and stretch the budget a little. I'm looking for a CPU/MB/RAM combo that I can effectively swap in for my current set-up.
